Jeffrey John-Edward Summitt

Jeffrey John-Edward Summitt, a beloved husband, father, brother, son, uncle, and friend, passed away at his home in Shelbyville, Kentucky, on September 3, 2025, at the age of 54. Known for his giving heart, quick humor, and creative spirit, Jeff touched countless lives with his kindness and resilience.

Born on October 9, 1970, to John William “Bill” Summitt and the late Mary Leona “Queenie” Bennett Summitt, Jeff lived a life filled with love, laughter, and faith. A proud Christian, he walked with God throughout his life, keeping his faith strong until the end.

Jeff was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shawn Renee Summitt, who passed away in December of 2024. Together, they built a family full of love, strength, and shared joy. He is survived by his children, Jeffrey Hendricks (Tyler) and Lauren Summitt; his sister, Susan Jackson (Daniel); and two nieces.

A man of many passions, Jeff found joy in painting, playing the drums, cheering on the Miami Dolphins, and watching old movies. More than his hobbies, though, he will be remembered for the warmth of his laughter, his generous spirit, and the way he made others feel valued and loved.

A memorial service to celebrate Jeff’s life will be held at a later date, with details to be announced.

Though his earthly journey has ended, Jeff’s memory will live on in the hearts of his family and all who knew him. In honor of his life, the family asks that you carry his legacy forward: extend a hand to those who need it, share God’s love, always enjoy your passions, and be unapologetically yourself.
