Are there any additional “next of kin” other than yourself?

State law requires that all of the deceased's legal “next of kin” sign the cremation authorization form. The order of legal next of kin typically follows this sequence: surviving spouse, followed by the majority of surviving adult children, surviving parents, the majority of surviving siblings, and then the majority of surviving adult grandchildren.

A death certificate is an official government-issued document that states the date, time, location, and cause of death. Death certificates are needed to close accounts, claim benefits, and file taxes. Ordering them from the provider is the easiest way to receive them.
