Leland Patrick Messer

Leland Patrick (Pat) Messer, 87, went home to be with Jesus on May 2, 2023. Pat was born in Corbin, Ky on April 6, 1936. He lived most of his life in Louisville, Ky. He was the middle son of Otis and Nina (Scott) Messer. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Leroy and Don Messer; and two infant sisters.

He leaves behind his full time caregivers, daughter, Gloria Diane (Tim) Salmon; his part time caregivers and grandchildren, Patrick (Kristin) Salmon, Brian Salmon, and Tiffanie (Matthew) Mueller. His son, Bob (Brenda) Jaggers; and two other daughters, Teresa (Stuart) Lambert and Jeanette Messer. Also, a daughter of his heart, Marie (Jackie) Hamlet. He has nine grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

Most of Pat's career was spent as head of security at Liberty National bank in downtown Louisville, Ky, where he was greatly loved and respected. His hobby was playing the guitar and singing old country and gospel songs. He played in bands and did solos at his church on occasions. Pat was saved by grace and washed and cleansed in baptism early in his life. He was recently attending church with his daughter and son-in-law at Shelbyville First Baptist Church in Shelbyville, Ky. Pat truly loved and cared for everyone he met. He was always ready to help anyone that needed it. He was a blessing from God to his family and friends. He fought a long, hard battle with Parkinson's and dementia, he is now rested and renewed in Heaven. 

Our family wants to extend our gratitude to his hospice team at Hosparus Health of Louisville who cared for him alongside his family. 

Pat will be cremated and a celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at 1pm, at "At The Cross Pond", 7710 Bagdad Road, Bagdad, Ky 40003. In lieu of fresh flowers, the family requests perennials to plant in Pat's memorial garden.
